Most of you (in the United States) are probably well-aware of the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009″, which was (is) Congress and the Administration’s direct response to the economic crisis plaguing the U.S. Among its multiple goals and intentions, the “ARRA” continues to encourage economic growth and development by making some $275 billion dollars available for federal contracts, grants, and loans.
The “Buy American Provision” of the “ARRA” states that unless one of (3) exceptions applies (non-availability, unreasonable cost, or inconsistent with the public interest) and such a waiver is granted, that all projects federally-funded through the “ARRA” for the “construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of a public building or public work” must use iron, steel, and manufactured goods (emphasis added) produced in the U.S.
Such federally-funded projects might pertain to energy efficiency, renewable energy, industrial technologies, environmental clean-up, wastewater treatment, mass transit modernization, and small business innovation.
Are you working on an “ARRA-funded” project? Let us know!
